King Charles has finally put his foot down with all the controversy that Prince Andrew has been causing as of late by forcing him to relinquish his royal title as Duke of York. It’s pretty well established with the public that the King’s brother is connected to the infamous sexual predator, Jeffrey Epstein. Recently, it was reported that Charles wouldn’t be inviting Andrew to the Royal Family’s Christmas celebration, but many thought that was far from a suitable punishment. But forcing the Prince to give up his title has been collectively seen as a good step forward for the Palace.
The news came about from the official website of the Royal Family titled: “A statement by Prince Andrew.” It begins with Prince Andrew expressing how he’s discussing the controversy and negative backlash his presence has brought to the Palace. The stir has caused a notable distraction “from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family.” As a result, he and Charles have come to the following decision:
“With His Majesty’s agreement, we feel I must now go a step further. I will therefore no longer use my title or the honours which have been conferred upon me. As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the accusations against me.”
As explained by Daily Mail, Prince Andrew will still be a Prince since he’s Queen Elizabeth’s son. On the other hand, he is no longer a Duke, a member of the Order of the Garter, nor the Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victoria Order. His ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, will also lose her title as the Duchess of York, but Beatrice and Eugenie will still retain their positions as Princesses. Many assume the reason why Prince Andrew was permitted to claim he was the one giving up his royal title was a grace by King Charles to save face. After all, Prince Andrew “vigorously denies” any accountability for what he’s done, stating that it’s all false. “He’s lucky that KC let him save face and ‘willingly’ give up his titles,” remarks a Redditor.
While some would see Prince Andrew rot in prison for his crimes, many believe King Charles’ decision is a good precedent for things to come, particularly for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. “The way is now clear. Henry and Rachel are next,” remarked an online commenter. “Harry and Meghan are next hopefully,” echoed another. “I bet Harry is TERRIFIED right now!” exclaims a third. “This makes it easier on William when he takes the throne,” added a fourth, pointing out that if Charles does this to his brother, then future King William will be justified in pressuring his brother Harry to follow suit.
