Unfortunately, being a black woman means having many people be blatantly racist toward you, even when they genuinely believe they aren’t. It’s a terrible reality that various people of color have to live with every single day, and others turn a blind eye to it. One Texas woman was left absolutely shocked when she managed to capture a friend of hers being racist toward Black people. More specifically, the friend was being aggressive about even being perceived as racist when she has “those people” as friends! Now, the internet has come together to show the original poster that she was in the right.
The above video was posted to the TikTok account @dexissecret, and features two black women on a phone call with another woman. It’s a long one, so hold on to your seats while watching. In the conversation, one of the black women is speaking, with the other not saying a word.
The woman who is speaking begins to address her concerns about a few comments that the woman on the phone had made, even giving her the courtesy of carefully explaining her reasonings. It’s likely that the person on the phone had no idea that the other Black woman was also on the line, because what she followed up with shocked even me.
Throughout the conversation, you can hear the woman on the phone refer to Black people as “you people” because “well, apparently, I can’t say the word black anymore.” It’s likely she feels attacked because of her backwards view on who a Black person really is, especially if she is so comfortable saying this to a woman who, within the community, would be considered light-skinned, or white-passing. She even tries to justify her actions by explaining that she wouldn’t be friends with a Black person if she didn’t like them which, honestly, doesn’t help her case at all.
Unfortunately, the video doesn’t end with an apology of any kind. Well, it did, but it was incredibly passive-aggressive, blaming the Black woman for having her feelings hurt. As a whole, the video is difficult to watch because of how uncouth the woman on the phone was. Even one of the top commentators thought the same, saying, “Is she rage baiting you rn?!?!?“
Others were a bit more focused on how the conversation was going, with another commentator saying, “Shes answering like a republican politician ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ๐๐๐” Honestly, I completely agree. Even the Black woman speaking with her must have felt the same because she simply ends the call acknowledging that the two are not on the same page.
