Goth Woman Turned Away from Iowa Theme Park Because They Think Her Everyday Look is a Scare Actor Costume, ‘Not letting regular looking goth people into a Halloween event is insane’

Those guards have to be joking

Imagine being denied access to an event you paid for just because of your makeup and the way you dress. It’s an easy case of being discriminated against. From people saying they’re too distracting to looking too frightening in their everyday makeup, it’s common for people to judge based on a goth person’s appearance. Having what I would consider pretty standard makeup, a goth woman in Iowa shared on TikTok of her being rudely denied access into Adventureland Resort for her objectively great outfit.

@Adventureland Resort me and my family are here to enjoy a scary good time but I’m being turned away because of how I look

TikToker Sky captured the encounter with security using her phone, which started mid-conversation. Two guards confronted her before she could enter, which Sky said she had already paid the ticket for. They were hosting a Halloween event, which had scare actors present. The guard claimed Sky wasn’t allowed in because she was wearing “face paint and a costume.” You can see Sky has white face makeup (that isn’t heavily applied to begin with), eyeliner, black lipstick, and is wearing an all-black outfit.

Both told her any “reasonable person” would believe she was in a costume. It didn’t matter Sky defended herself, saying she couldn’t understand why they wouldn’t let her enter. This was her normal, everyday clothing. “No one has EVER confused me with a scare actor before,” she argued. After they told her she could enter after wiping off her makeup, “I paid a lot of money for this event. I would like to come as myself.”

When she verified with them that she would take off her makeup and try to reenter, they told her she would be permitted to do so. “Not letting regular looking goth people into a Halloween event is insane… Like that’s your target audience,” one person argued.

Another replied, “Agreed. This look is absolutely a common/typical goth makeup look. In honesty I find it tame compared to what I usually see,” which were my feelings, too. I wonder if these guards have ever seen an everyday goth person before.

But one commenter drove straight to the heart of the issue: “He is trying to neg you and make you stop dressing like that bc he personally doesnt like it.” It couldn’t have been said better. To think she looks remotely scary is absurd!
