While plenty of MAGA voters have been supportive of President Trump’s executive order on restricting the livelihoods of transgender people, it has caused cisgender people problems as well, regardless of political leaning. Likewise, one teen boy in Arizona has been negatively affected by this rule, as his own school forces him to play on the girls’ basketball team instead of the boys’.

The reason is that his original birth certificate contained an error, labeling him as a female despite being a boy. However, even after his parents submitted a corrected birth certificate with a doctor’s note to the school, the board rejected the teen boy from playing on the boys’ team, saying that he wasn’t qualified. “Our schools rely on a student’s original birth certificate at birth to determine athletic eligibility,” the official statement read, per WDBJ7.

The athletic director even embarrassed the student in front of his friends during the boys’ basketball team tryouts, forcing him to leave because he was legally “a female” who couldn’t be there with his “male friends.” The Arizona school won’t accept his correct birth certificate and said it would only reconsider if the parents could provide a chromosome analysis, proving that he’s male. The fact that the child and his family need to go through all this trouble just to let him play on his school’s basketball team goes to show how absurd the Trump administration’s rules are.

“This whole thing is so ridiculous lol,” expressed a Redditor, and thousands of other users strongly agree. “The school is forcing him to be trans,” added another. “If they’d actually cared about consistency in their statements, the school would also force him to use girls’ bathrooms and locker rooms,” chimed in a third. “Shame on the school!” exclaimed a fourth.

One commenter pointed out how the Arizona school has been aware of the teen boy’s birth certificate situation since he entered the system when he was younger. But now that he wants to play sports, it’s suddenly become a huge issue for the school, which is downright outrageous.
