Most of the challenges you’ll encounter in The Outer Worlds 2 will require you to pass a skill check only, yet there are a few, such as the one inside the Observatory of Golden Ridge, that will require your wits, or in other words, good old puzzle-solving skills. However, if you’re struggling to beat this puzzle and just want a quick solution, here’s a guide to help you solve the Observatory riddle in The Outer Worlds 2.

The Outer Worlds 2: Observatory Riddle Solution

We’ll try not to put out any spoilers here, but here’s a quick warning in case you want to experience this location without us giving away some of the details.

You’ll enter the Observatory as part of the main story, more specifically, by the end of the questline in Golden Ridge. Once you go through the Monastery, you’ll reach the final part of it, which is the Observatory, and just before reaching the end, you’ll encounter a terminal and a riddle next to it.

Instead of listing the whole puzzle, the three sentences you should pay attention to are the following:

The first dial should be set to the number of moons that orbit Elysium.

The second dial should be set to the number of moons that orbit between Dorado and Elysium.

The final dial should be set to the number of times Eden orbits Elysium before Praetor and Cloister complete a single rotation.

At first, this may seem quite ambiguous, but the truth is that the solution is much easier if you know where to look.

First, turn to your left and face the orrery (the one in the above image), as it contains all the clues. For the first two questions, pay attention to the rotating model, as it has all the answers.

You need to check all the planets and moons in the orrery and then head to the models that are scattered around the room to learn their names. After that, solving the riddle will be a bit easier.

In the case of “the moons that orbit Elysium,” Elysium is the planet in the middle, so you need to check which of the celestial bodies orbit around the planet, which are 4.

The second puzzle requires you to see how many moons orbit between Dorado and Elysium, Dorado being the orange-ish celestial body. In this case, the answer is 1.

For the third part, you need to see how many times Eden orbits Elysium before two other celestial bodies complete a rotation. But wait, the wall you’ve been looking at doesn’t have the exact rotation of each of the planets and moons. Instead, you’ll need to head to the courtyard to look at that.

Here, you’ll be able to see the rotation of each celestial body, making the final answer 4.

If we put all the numbers together, the complete code is: 414. So, simply return to the terminal and adjust each dial to the numbers listed above.

After that, a door will open, giving you the Pitchball Card of Feargus Urquhart and some extra loot.

If you thought the reward was the cool-looking gun down the hall, don’t worry, you’ll obtain it after certain events that happen in the next room, or if you have the right background or skills.
