You know someone’s a Karen when they want to ‘see the manager’ or call the police over the most insignificant things. In one dumpster diver’s case, the Karen was the manager, and she was not happy that someone was picking through her dollar store’s dumpster in Boston, Massachusetts. She approached the man, claiming that dumpster diving is theft and that what he was doing was illegal.
The Karen manager then calls the police on the dumpster diver, to which he responds that there’s no way the cops would go out of their way to arrest someone going through trash. “Keep calling. They’re not going to come. They don’t care.” Yet, the woman continued to harass the man, trying her best to intimidate him to leave. “Get outta here. You’re the manager of Dollar Tree,” he sarcastically remarks.
Besides crossing onto a person’s or a business’s private property, dumpster diving is not considered illegal in the United States. And this Boston dumpster diver clearly told the dollar store manager that he was in a public lot, with the dumpster being owned and managed by WM, aka Waste Management. In other words, there was nothing wrong with what he was doing. If anything, he was making sure the stuff destined for a landfill would be put to use, yet the Karen had issue with it.
Some online users joked that the Karen got upset because she was actually planning to take the dumpster’s contents home after work. “She’s just mad because she was planning on diving it after her shift and you beat her to it 😂,” laughed an Instagram commenter. “She put that there to collect later. You looted her loot 😭,” agreed another.
One Redditor criticized the woman for not being pleased that the tossed items were being repurposed. “🙄 hateful person with nothing better to do. Reminds me of managers who won’t let their employees take home food thats being thrown out.” Ironically enough, another Reddit user had recently posted that their Subway manager had the same energy as the Dollar Tree Karen. In their case, the supervisor forced a large batch of cookies to be thrown away instead of being taken home.
With all the economic problems in our day and age, it’s wild that people still want to see food and items go to waste instead of being put to good use.
