Baby showers are meant to be fun and a way to celebrate the upcoming birth of a baby, as well as the parents. But that’s not to say that you won’t find your fair share of drama at a baby shower! This is especially true when large groups of people get together or rules are broken. A Florida woman explains how she was mistreated at a baby shower and what made the mother-to-be so frustrated with her.
Gabby (@notaregularmommyy) shared a TikTok video of a time when she was kicked out of a baby shower. She said that she was attending the baby shower for a friend of a friend. It wasn’t somebody incredibly close to her. Still, she wanted to show her support and be kind in light of her soon having her first baby. On top of that, Gabby learned that the woman didn’t have much support and wanted to show up for her. She received an invite because they had mutual friends.
Gabby goes on to say that the invites sent out included a request not to bring children to the baby shower. However, Gabby didn’t have anybody to babysit her 1-year-old child at the time, so she brought them along despite the rules. She says she just wanted to show up, give the mom-to-be a gift, and then leave. When she showed up, she gave the gift to the mom. Gabby said the mom acted “very weird” and looked at her in a way that signified she wasn’t happy.
The mom-to-be went to the bathroom and sent her friend out to confront Gabby. Gabby’s friend apologized and said that the mom-to-be wanted her to “leave” the baby shower immediately. Why? Because she broke the rule on the baby shower invite and showed up with a child anyway. Gabby tried to explain that she just wanted to come in for a few minutes and give her a gift. She was extremely offended that they made it into a big deal.
If it were your baby shower, what would you do? Would there be an exception for a woman who was only planning on staying for a few minutes? Or would you stick to your guns about people obeying the rules to the T? Commenters were divided over this on Gabby’s video. It’s obvious that Gabby didn’t have mean intentions, but also, no children allowed. As one person commented, “Ya’ll have to stop thinking that kids need to be everywhere.” Somebody on the other side of the fence offered, “When she has her kid she’ll realize what it feels like for your kid to not be welcomed somewhere especially when you don’t have help.” In the end, it may have been an overreaction but Gabby could have given the gift to her another way as well. I can see it from both sides.
