Two years after Friends star Matthew Perry’s heartbreaking death, fans and even his family say it still doesn’t feel real. Even so, something about his final resting place still feels unfinished to some. Those who stop by Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Hollywood Hills have noticed one heartbreaking thing. There’s still no headstone in place to mark where he rests.

Perry’s grave sits within a private area of Forest Lawn known as the Sanctuary of Treasured Love, a peaceful and quiet part of the cemetery. His gravesite, though, remains unmarked. Visitors paying their respects have left heartfelt tributes. However, some have left personal items and touches honoring Perry, according to Globe Magazine.
Perry, best known as Chandler Bing on the popular sitcom Friends, passed away on October 28, 2023, at age 54. He was discovered unresponsive in the hot tub at his Pacific Palisades home, and officials later confirmed he died from the acute effects of ketamine. Matthew was laid to rest in a private ceremony attended by his family, closest pals, and Friends co-stars.
Matthew Perry’s Family and Friends Still Deeply Grieving
Two years later, the grief still runs deep for those who loved and admired Matthew. His sister, Caitlin Morrison, has used her sadness for good by founding the Matthew Perry House in their hometown of Ottawa.
The organization focuses on fighting the harsh realities of addiction by helping fund long-term recovery programs. Caitlin says her mission comes straight from the heart. It is inspired by Matthew’s own struggle, according to his sister.

Meanwhile, Perry’s Friends castmates, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer, have stayed relatively quiet since the anniversary. But those close to them say the tight-knit group is still struggling with the loss of the man they considered family.
“We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates,” the cast said in a joint statement at the time of Perry’s death.
The question that lingers, however, is why Matthew Perry’s grave remains unmarked. Whether it’s a private family decision, a matter of timing, or simply a reflection of how hard it still is to let go.
Maybe the missing headstone isn’t an oversight at all. Maybe it’s the family’s way of keeping his memory private, something untouched by fame or paparazzi cameras.
