If you’re trying to watch ESPN on YouTube TV these days, you might have noticed the streaming service has disappeared. No worries; you’re not alone, as all those subscribed to TV have lost their access as well. The reason is that Disney didn’t renew its contract with YouTube, meaning that any networks under Disney have been removed and cannot be viewed anymore by subscribers. According to Akron Beacon Journal, National Geographic, Disney Channel, FX, ABC, and ESPN won’t be available unless a new deal has been agreed upon.
Where To Watch ESPN, Fast and Easy
YouTube TV viewers are able to watch ESPN by subscribing to one of Hulu’s bundle offers, which provides access to Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN. For instance, Hulu + Live TV members can watch ESPN college football and other sports without issue. There are alternatives as well, including DirecTV or Sling. ESPN has chimed in as well, explaining how YouTube TV users affected by the blackout can still get instant access through other services:
“If you don’t have cable access to ESPN right now, you can get instant access to ESPN content through a variety of services including Cox, Dish, Fios, Fubo, Mediacom, Optimum, Sling, Spectrum TV and Xfinity.”
Let’s say paying for a new service isn’t affordable for you at the moment, or you’d just like to give things a go. Luckily, many of the streaming services, like Hulu + Live TV, offer free trials for new subscribers.
What Did Disney Say About Its Deal with YouTube TV for ESPN Access?
According to CNBC, Disney Entertainment Co-Chairs and ESPN Chairman stated that YouTube TV deleted Disney’s previously recorded shows and videos, as well as disagreeing on a new contract. They continued their criticisms, claiming that YouTube’s “actions make clear how little regard they have for their customers and are consistent with an attitude which has been prevalent throughout our negotiation.” This is sort of ironic, coming from another mega conglomerate that has monopolized so many platforms and streaming services.
