Maybe you’ll chat a little if the driver or passenger is in the mood, but most rides are uneventful and honestly pretty boring. That is, until you run into difficult people. Sure, there are bad drivers out there, but there are also bad riders. And for one Uber driver in Baltimore, Maryland, he had the bad luck of picking up a particularly angry and racist passenger.
It’s not entirely clear what started their argument, but the video shows the woman threatening to call the police on the Uber driver if he didn’t take her back to where she had come from. She accused him of being “disrespectful” for not following her orders. The driver calmly explained that he was just following the app’s directions and that she was free to get out if she wanted to.
Things quickly escalated when the woman insulted him again, prompting the driver to tell her to get out of his car. She refused, insisting she would call the police, claiming the man was threatening her. The driver reminded her that everything was being recorded and accused her of lying.
At one point, the woman claimed he was trying to throw her out on the highway, but the driver pointed out that he was parked safely by the sidewalk and that she could easily get out if she felt uncomfortable. The woman then went on a rant while on the phone with the police, accusing the Uber driver of being aggressive and racist, even claiming that he said he didn’t like Black women.
The Uber driver, clearly frustrated, said that nothing she was saying made sense. He pointed out the contradiction: she claimed to be scared, yet she kept arguing and refused to leave. She also accused him of recording her without consent, but he said he was doing so for his own safety since she was trying to set him up.
Despite the Uber driver showing that they were parked on a city street in downtown Baltimore (not on a highway, as she claimed), the woman refused to get out. Unfortunately, the video cuts off there, so it’s unclear how things ended. Hopefully, the driver was okay, which is what most commenters on Reddit were hoping for too.
Many agreed the woman was being unreasonable and could have simply left if she felt uncomfortable. One commenter joked about “white car privilege,” referencing the woman’s complaint about the color of the vehicle. Another added, “I live in Baltimore City. Those cops are NEVER going to arrive, and that’s not a knock on them; they’re just not going to rush for a call like this.”
