Despite all the bad in the world, there are still people who say, “Look for the helpers.” These are often people on the sidelines doing the right thing in the face of wrongdoing. In San Diego, one helper came in the form of a local who stood up to border patrol. When they threatened to detain people simply walking their dogs, he’d had enough. At a time when many hesitate to do the right thing, one man, named Woody, stepped up.
In a video taken at the Grape Street Dog Park, four border patrol agents are gathered in the parking lot. Several locals are heard standing up to them, with one saying the person they took is an American citizen. As the camera pans, Woody appears in a bright yellow shirt that says, “pendejo.” As he holds his phone up to record, he fires back at agents for attempting to stop him from getting involved.
He names one, which sounds like Pedilla, as he says the border agent attempted to trip him while walking back to his vehicle. The border patrol agents do nothing but refuse to leave, instead smiling smugly while remaining silent. To this, Woody points at each one and says, “You’re a (bleeping) clown, you’re a (bleeping) clown, you’re a (bleeping) clown, and you’re a (bleeping) clown!”
The video ends here, but it has garnered widespread support on Reddit from new Woody fans. “He’s definitely getting an invite to the next carne asada,” says one user. Another replied, saying, “I’d buy him a beer and a burger.” One expressed their appreciation, saying, “Thanks for telling those scumbags they’re clowns.” With the help of San Diego locals, one user said they visit the dog park frequently, and promised to pass the messages along to Woody. “Yellow shirts guy’s name is Woody! I’ll be sure to show him this thread and all your well wishes at the park later,” they said. By the end of the thread, most users would agree: In a world of border patrol agents, choose to be like Woody.
