Being in the food service industry isn’t for the weak. In addition to the sometimes hectic pace of making, serving, and delivering food, workers also have to deal with disgruntled customers. The internet is full of videos of customers having freakouts in restaurants and confronting their DoorDash drivers. Unfortunately, one pizza delivery man in Illinois had to deal with a dramatic encounter when his customer took the pizza and left him without any money.
In a TikTok video posted by @shanesmith630, he shared a clip from a doorbell camera belonging to one of his friends. In the video, a Domino’s Pizza delivery man is seen walking up to the front door and ringing the bell. After the customer answers the door, things get a bit sticky.
The Illinois delivery man grabs the pizza out of the bag and tells the homeowner that his total is $54.74 for his two pizzas and delivery fee. The man takes the pizza and then hands the driver a $100 bill. The customer asks that the driver give him $35 back in change, meaning he planned to tip the man $10.
Illinois Man Takes Pizza Without Paying
However, the Domino’s employee calmly tells the customer that he doesn’t have that much change. He explains that he only has $15, which is a company policy. The customer gets a bit annoyed and tells the driver that he specifically called the store and told him that he would need change for $100.
The homeowner then goes on to tell the driver to take the $100 and then bring him back his change after returning to the store. The employee tells him that he can’t do that because it’s one of the busiest nights of the year for pizza delivery. So, the customer asks what he’s supposed to do now.
The driver suggests calling the store and paying for the pizza with a credit card. However, the customer does not want to do that. So, he insists again that the driver find a way to make change. When he can’t, things get ugly. “I can take the pizza back,” the driver says. “That’s not going to happen,” says the customer. “You can’t just take pizza for free,” the driver shoots back, as the customer explains again that he called the store in advance.
“Give me the pizza,” the delivery driver says. “Goodbye,” the customer tells him before going into the house with the pizza and the money and shutting the door. The driver looks stunned before storming away from the house, likely to call his manager.
“Who pays with cash in 2025?” one person said in the comment section. “I would’ve taken the $100 and when I got back to the store, called the guy and told him his change was waiting for him at the restaurant,” said another.
It seems that the Illinois man believed he deserved the pizza whether he paid for it or not. Meanwhile, the driver’s night likely got a lot more complicated after the heated exchange.
