As election season heats up in Texas, tensions between the political left and right have reached a boiling point. One recent confrontation in a Texas parking lot shows just how ugly things can get. A woman who simply showed up to vote ended up being surrounded and harassed by a group of MAGA supporters after a minor parking dispute spiraled out of control.
The incident began when the woman’s car nearly collided with another vehicle driven by Theodis Daniel, the father of DJ Daniel, a 13-year-old boy who has become something of a local celebrity. DJ, who has been bravely battling brain cancer, dreams of becoming a police officer. Over the years, he has been honored by more than a thousand law enforcement agencies across the country, named an honorary Secret Service agent, and even sworn in as the Honorary Assistant Chief of the Kemah Police Department.
But this time, it was not about DJ’s inspiring journey, it was about his father’s behavior. After the near-accident, Theodis reportedly confronted the woman and immediately brought politics into the argument. According to the video that surfaced online, he accused her of being a “Jasmine Crockett type,” a reference that many interpreted as racially charged and misogynistic. The woman, clearly taken aback, refused to back down and defended herself.
Things escalated quickly when a group of MAGA supporters nearby joined in, surrounding the woman and shouting at her to leave. She repeatedly told them that she was there to vote, but they continued to taunt and harass her. What could have been a brief, civil dispute turned into an ugly scene of intimidation.
People who watched the video online were outraged. Many pointed out how unnecessary the mob-like behavior was and criticized the MAGA group for ganging up on one woman instead of letting her handle the situation directly with Theodis. Others called out Theodis himself, accusing him of using his son’s fame to push political talking points.
“I feel extremely bad for this kid,” one commenter wrote. “When I first heard of him, I wondered what kind of parents would surround their child with far-right figures like Trump. Seeing this video just confirmed it, his dad was spewing sexist, anti-Black rhetoric toward that woman for no reason.”
Several commenters also noted that the confrontation could have been an attempt to intimidate a voter, which is illegal in Texas. “They wanted to stop her from voting,” one user wrote. Another added, “This is literally voter harassment. You can’t bother people at the polls like that.”
