If you grew up robbing banks or chasing crooks, get ready to see that chaos hit the big screen. The long-running Roblox classic Jailbreak is reportedly getting an animated movie adaptation from Wind Sun Sky Entertainment, the studio behind the Invincible series. The film will be called Jailbreak: Rising City, and it’s not just going to be the first-ever Roblox movie — it could be the start of something much bigger.

For now, though, no details on the cast or even the release date have been released. The studio has only shared a single promotional image teasing five main characters rendered in 3D. They include a mischievous-looking boy, a cheerful girl, a gorilla in a bear suit, an angry chipmunk, and a robotic cowboy.

According to the press announcement spotted on Kidscreen.com, the film won’t just simply retell the game’s cops-and-robbers setup. It’s also planned as the foundation for a full franchise, including an animated series and short-form spin-offs.

Jailbreak was created by two-man developers Alex Balfanz and Keanu Jacobson under the team Badimo. It offers a completely sandbox experience, letting players choose to play as criminals staging elaborate heists or police officers trying to stop them. Since its 2017 launch, it has become one of Roblox‘s breakout hits and amassed over 7.6 billion plays to date.

Wind Sun Sky Entertainment itself isn’t new to this kind of project. The Vancouver-based studio was founded in 2016 by The Walking Dead producer Catherine Winder and worked on various adaptations and game-related works. Including VR game After the Fall, Amazon’s Invincible, as well as Creature of Sonaria and Twilight Daycare: The Show — another Roblox adaptation.

Between A Minecraft Movie and Five Nights at Freddy’s, Roblox might be the next kid-favorite game universe Hollywood wants in on. If Jailbreak: Rising City sticks the landing, it definitely could open the door for more Roblox movies to follow.
