Cincinnati Homeowner Pays $599 For the Worst Roof Repair Ever: ‘I Thought Somebody Dropped Their Cake’

Anyone can do it better for less

We all know that roof repairs aren’t cheap, and for the expensive price we pay, we expect good service, right? Well, that isn’t always the case. A disgruntled homeowner in Cincinnati, Ohio, just shared their sad, albeit funny, story of paying $599 to fix a leaking roof only to discover the worst repair job ever. Apparently, the roofer thought it’d be a good idea to patch the leak with what seems to be either embroidery or a smashed cake. It’s up to everyone’s interpretation.

I had a leak for a while, called the roofer, he said there was a leak and that he fixed it. He charged me $599. I just went up to the roof and saw this. Is this a normal way to patch a roof?

Reddit user Reasonable_Exam_4759 shared their experience with a questionable roofer. According to this Cincinnati homeowner, they only wanted a roof leak fixed, but they called a not-so-qualified person who charged $599 for the worst roof repair. Once it was finished, the homeowner decided to go up to the roof to discover what might be the weakest, most hilarious, and strangest roof repair job ever.

If you take a look at the image, you can see the roofer used a strange material to fix the leak, which, in truth, we still can’t figure out what it is. For starters, all the patching appears to have been done in a rushed manner. Then, you can see the worker used something that looks like a plate or embroidery to cover the poorly fixed hole.

Update on strange (cake looking) roof repair

Fortunately, the OP followed up with a post about the situation and finally unveiled the mystery of the questionable material used in the roof repair. In the next post, the homeowner mentions discovering a phone case with two round cuts in the middle, which, you guessed it, is what the roofer used to “fix” the leak, and for $599 at that.

While many find the situation funny, some Redditors believe this is the OP’s attempt at ragebait, claiming they created the whole situation and fixed the leak themselves. In truth, it isn’t that far-fetched, as the OP also mysteriously found the phone case soon after. If it is true, however, we can’t help but see this repairing debacle quite funny.

“I thought somebody dropped their cake,” commented Whole-Peanut-9417.

“The part that makes it fake is that they would have charged $600 even, no way they are giving up a dollar to try and make a sale,” said Jeff_Kintsugi.

While the whole situation seems sketchy, we all know there are a lot of people in the country who do repairs like this or other DIY work in questionable ways. So, it isn’t too hard to believe. But if it is fake, then props to OP for the effort.
