If there’s one thing you don’t mess with on the internet, it’s the sacred childhood relics that shaped entire generations. At least that’s what many social media users were saying loud and clear after watching one Michigan creator slice into a Magic 8 Ball for fun. The internet creator instantly ruffled feathers with their decision to dissect the beloved fortune-telling toy, and some say it may have been a bad move.
In a TikTok video posted by Michigan user @artisteditz14, a proud Swiftie with a taste for dramatic edits, posted the now-viral clip with the simple caption: “I needed to see what was actually inside an 8-ball.” However, instead of the satisfying reveal he might have been expecting, the TikToker walked straight into a flood of disbelief, discomfort, and downright superstition from many online.
The video opens with a massive carving knife coming down hard on the 8 Ball’s little window. Each strike makes a loud clunking noise that continues as the creator continues to use the knife to break up the toy.
Michigan TikToker Unsettles Social Media By Carving Into Magic 8 Ball
The 8 ball sits atop some folded paper towels, and quickly starts to seep the blue liquid that the toy is known for. The liquid begins to absorb into the paper towel and even appears to splash onto the floor as well, as a TikTok user revealed in the comments that the clip was not satisfying and that the creator may not want to go into making ASMR videos.
The video ends. No dramatic reveal. Viewers didn’t even get to see the tiny cylinder that supposedly houses the floating answer die. Instead, everyone was left staring at a growing stain of blue liquid and a creator who ended up with the blue dye on their hands.
According to Magic-8ball.com, the liquid inside the ball is just blue-tinted alcohol, sealed inside a small container with a 20-sided die. Nothing mystical. Nothing toxic. However, it’s likely not meant to be pried out with a kitchen knife.
Even so, TikTok reacted like it was a crime scene video. “He’s bleeding. Stop hurting him,” one person joked in the comments. “This definitely has to be bad luck,” said another. “I see someone didn’t like their fortune,” a third person added. “You have so much trust in that paper towel,” a fourth comment read. “Everything about this video is wrong,” a final commenter chimed in.
Viewers may disagree whether or not the Michigan TikTok user cursed themselves with bad luck for the next decade. However, it seems that no one, not even the Magic 8 Ball could predict the backlash the video would get.
