Sometimes, it’s hard not to feel a bit sympathetic whenever you spot a poor stray cat or dog that’s likely been abandoned by its previous owner. That said, one Oklahoma woman took pity on a scraggly-looking cat she found in her area and decided to take it in. It was in quite the rough state: fleas, herpes, underweight, respiratory issues, you name it. After getting it vaccinated and helping it get its strength back, the woman started posting photos of it online, showing how it was recovering. That’s when things went downhill with the cat’s self-proclaimed owner, who attacked the caretaker and even tried to get her into legal trouble.
It began when the random individual messaged the cat caretaker, claiming that it was more or less her “outside cat” that she had been feeding. However, this Karen lacked “paperwork like vet bills, invoices, records, adoption sale or anything like that,” the woman explained on Reddit. Yet, this sketchy person said they were planning to adopt the cat themselves. Because the woman didn’t want any trouble with a potential pet owner, she contacted the humane society.
“I am told that just because she was feeding a street cat that doesn’t mean she has ownership, and I am okay to use my discretion on what happens with the cat,” the woman said after her chat with the humane society representative. So, she proceeded with other vaccinations and was working on getting the cat into a foster system when the “owner” began her barrage of harassment.
The Self-Proclaimed Owner Even Filed a Police Report on the Cat’s Caretaker
It started with emotionally charged text messages, followed by a public post that doxxed the woman taking care of the stray. The Karen encouraged others to attack and even physically assault the woman for ‘stealing her cat.’ Eventually, a police report was allegedly filed against her, causing her to go to Reddit to vent about her situation with this wild Karen.
“You should stop talking to this person immediately, and block them,” suggested a commenter. “That person is a nutcase,” remarked another. A handful of others collectively agreed that the woman should block the Karen and even consider getting the police involved with a restraining order if the harassment doesn’t stop.
Hopefully, all ends well for the caretaker, as she has been working hard to become the cat’s new owner by ensuring all the legal and medical work is done properly.
