There are many tools out there that, if used incorrectly, can severely harm a person, no matter how insignificant they may seem. This is especially so whenever it concerns something you’re putting in your body. One California woman shared a horrifying PSA about using glass straws and what could potentially happen should you swallow a shard. Fortunately, she is okay, but the story that follows, as well as her hospital adventure, is truly a cautionary tale for anyone drinking through a glass straw regularly.
The above video was posted to the TikTok account @_colorful__chaos_, belonging to a California mother of what looks to be four children. Her posts tend to feature her family, alongside her husband, though this one was a little bit different. Instead, she starts the video asking viewers not to use glass straws. What’s worse is that the video appears to be taken inside a hospital of some kind.
The video then cuts to her shortly afterward, clearly feeling much better after the ordeal. She explains that she had to head to the hospital after using a glass straw and realizing she had swallowed a shard from it. However, she only realized what had happened after she burped, leading to blood filling up her mouth. Fortunately, she was able to head to the emergency room in time, but not without allegedly getting pushback from them.
California Woman Shares Terrifying Story After Swallowing Glass From a Straw
A doctor ended up realizing just how serious the situation was after having located a piece of glass in her stomach. However, since there was such a long period of time between getting her CAT scan, the glass moved out of her stomach and into her intestines. As a result, she was sent home and asked to monitor her bowels to ensure everything came out safely.
Apparently, since it had already gone through her stomach and her esophagus, that means that it will likely not harm her just before finally being expelled. Commentators replied with shock and horror, some even seeing the irony in using a glass straw over a plastic one, saying, “They be saving the turtles but not us 😔❤️.”
Other commentators shared safer straw options to avoid having this issue, saying, “guys, buy stainless steel or silicon straws. those glass straws are not it.” She ends the video saying that the straws came from a company she needed to create a promotional video for, and is unable to delete it at the moment. However, now this just means that others will be able to avoid the product.
