A man living in Missouri was left worried and upset after finding out that his wife and children had been detained during a visit to a local Walmart in Liberty. The father shared two videos on TikTok showing a KCMO police officer placing one of his sons under arrest after a Walmart loss prevention employee accused several of the children of theft. However, he claims his son had actually paid for the item he was accused of stealing and that the officer did not confirm any details before cuffing him and pulling him away.
The Family Was Distressed by the Accusation
In one of the videos the father posted, two of the children appear to resist the officer as he grabs one boy’s arm in an attempt to restrain him. At one point, the mother steps in, telling her son to stop resisting and to stay calm, even though she sounds shaken herself. Her words do not seem to change anything at that moment, because the officer eventually forces the boy to the ground and handcuffs him.
For several minutes, the family repeatedly tells the officer that they have done nothing wrong and do not understand why they are being accused of theft when they have receipts for everything in their carts. When the mother asks him to remove the handcuffs, the officer insists the boy resisted. She pushes back and tells him, “These are kids… They didn’t know they were being arrested. Nobody told them anything.”
She then turns to the Walmart loss prevention employee, who was also witnessing what was happening, and asks her to point out exactly which child she had seen stealing. The employee confidently points to three of them, but the family challenges her, saying she can check every item in their cart and match it to their receipt to prove nothing was stolen.
The videos do not show what happened next, but the father claims in his TikTok caption that the employee was later proven wrong and that she should be fired for her mistake. If true, the situation would have been an extremely traumatic experience for the children involved.
Here’s How Netizens Are Reacting to the Missouri Walmart Incident
People who watched the videos expressed strong sympathy for the family. One person wrote, “That’s so messed up. I’m so sorry they had to go through that.” Another viewer commented, “This is making my blood boil. I’m so sorry this happened to your family. No one should be treated like that ESPECIALLY when they aren’t even 100 percent sure WHAT HAPPENED.”
Others criticized both the police response and Walmart’s handling of the situation. One viewer said, “There’s so many errors with this whole situation on Walmart and KCPD.” A second remarked, “How do you not make sure the theft actually happened before you take them away? That’s the bare minimum.” A third added, “Without doing a proper investigation, he is violating that little boy’s right by handcuffing him.”
Many commenters urged the family to seek legal help. “File a police report. Contact their home office. Contact a lawyer,” one person advised. Someone else wrote, “They have a record of discrimination, please get a lawyer and sue!”
