Angry Las Vegas Mom Blasts Insurance After Suddenly Cutting Off Treatment for Cancer-Stricken Son, ‘You Guys are So Greedy’

Think about those poor insurance CEOs…

It’s no secret that healthcare in some places in the US is in a rather abysmal state, and one such case for a mother and her cancer-stricken son in Las Vegas, Nevada, proves it once more. The Nevada family’s struggle quickly became exacerbated after the son’s cancer treatment coverage was cut off by his healthcare insurance, forcing the family to drive hours to another state to get the appropriate treatment.

This rather worrying incident happened to TikTok user mama.connie49, or just Connie, whose son unfortunately has cancer. The Las Vegas mom got a letter one day from Cigna Healthcare that they’re no longer partnering with her son’s nearest children’s hospital of choice because “they wanna charge too much.” Cigna Healthcare then recommends another hospital in Tucson, Arizona, for her son’s cancer treatment. The problem is, Tucson is at least 6-7 hours away from Las Vegas.

In Connie’s rant, she further explains that she thinks Cigna “runs a [expletive] scam” as, apart from paying more than $800 per month for the insurance, her deductible also reaches up to $10,000 per year. Now, because Cigna Healthcare decided to cut ties with her son’s hospital in Las Vegas, Connie will either be forced to endure 12-hour round-trips or stressful flights just to get treatment for her son’s cancer or just uproot her son to Tucson.

“You’re telling me that the team that has been treating my son from the very beginning, that helped find his cancer diagnosis and saved his life, can no longer be his doctor because you guys are so [expletive] greedy that you don’t want to partner with him… I have to uproot my son– who is already battling cancer, because you guys need a little bit more money,” claims Connie in a rant against Cigna Healthcare.

The family ended up adjusting

Sadly for Connie and her son, her rant to Cigna Healthcare didn’t do much to reverse their decision or provide a more convenient alternative. Connie ended up uprooting her and her son’s life to Phoenix, Arizona, to resume her son’s cancer treatment. She ended up having to rely on her friends to help with the move.

And while Connie’s son still managed to get the cancer treatment he needed, many people online sympathized with her plight and her sentiments about medical insurance companies. “Insurance companies are ‘for profit’ organizations. They do not care if it hurts you or makes it difficult for you,” reminds a commenter.

Some have replied with photos of Luigi Mangione, the man who became famous last year for murdering United Healthcare’s CEO with ideological motives, accusing the insurance company as exploitative. Meanwhile, others have pointed out that “The CEO of Cigna made 23 million in 2024, but they can’t afford a children’s hospital? Sickening! Shameful! I’m sorry you’re forced to deal with this.”
