Amazon drivers already deal with enough stress during the busiest time of the year. While everyone shops from home, they’re the ones with endless routes, delivering packages until 9 PM. While many customers aim to make their lives easier and even leave gifts or snacks, not everyone is so kind. At a time when the holidays mean choosing kindness, one Wyoming man chose racism.
A video posted by an Amazon delivery driver shows the man as he’s recording the delivery. We heard the driver say, “What happened?” As if asking if there’s a problem with the order. In response, the Wyoming man asks why the driver won’t talk. He responds, “I’m Amazon.” Hearing the accent in the driver’s voice, the man holds his phone up more, saying, “I don’t care. You don’t speak English.”
At this point, the racial motivation behind the man’s recording becomes clear. The driver says, “Thank you, sir, have a good night,” as he starts walking away. Still recording, he tries to walk back to his vehicle, but the Wyoming local follows him. “This is Wyoming, this isn’t bleeping Colorado,” the man says, photographing the driver’s license plate. As the driver tries to get into his car, the man violently shoves the door closed, following him with his phone.
As the Amazon driver walks around the other way, desperately trying to get into his car, the Wyoming man attempts to call 911. After several failed attempts at connecting to Siri, he continues to stand in the middle of the road, threatening the driver. As he makes it safely back into his car, the video ends.
Reddit users are demanding that Amazon make a call to action for the driver. Many are calling the customer’s actions harassment, while some say he should be barred from the service. At its core, this video is a stark reminder of what happens when racism and human decency are left at the door. “Nothing as stupid as an old moronic racist,” one user comments.
