Warhammer 40K fans are waking up to an absolute feast this week as Creative Assembly officially unveiled Total War: Warhammer 40,000 during The Game Awards 2025. As the studio wraps its 25th Anniversary celebrations, the announcement marks Total War’s long-awaited leap from historical and fantasy battlefields into the far future. A grimdark era defined only by war.
The debut trailer for the PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X release was introduced with the help of actor David Harbour, who himself will be a part of the game. Four major factions are confirmed for launch: Space Marines, Orks, Aeldari, and Astra Militarum. As expected, players can also form their own custom ‘your-guys’ warbands with tabletop-style personalization, from color schemes to trait-defining abilities. As a huge plus, the team also reveals that you won’t have to spend a dime to get gore in the game.
“No. The 41st Millennium is a setting of eternal war, so blood and dismemberment is key to creating an authentic experience,” written on the announcement page.
Some might expect Total War: Warhammer 40K to be just another setting swap. But through the reveal trailer, Creative Assembly masterfully showed it’s going to be more than that from the. It’s basically a full-on evolution of what Total War can be.
Players will be able to take command across a full galactic sandbox, expanding empires, building fleets, capturing planets, and dropping Steel Rains into massive real-time battles. Over time, the game is supposed to grow into a sprawling, ever-expanding warzone full of iconic heroes, factions, and planets from the Warhammer 40K universe.
Game Director Attila Mohacsi calls the project a ‘dream come true’ for the team, and the studio is set to share more during a December 16 developer roundtable. After that, expect radio silence until Spring 2026, when the real deep-dive gameplay reveals begin.
