After what we thought was over for the Tomb Raider games, Lara Croft is swinging her way back into the action at The Game Awards 2025 by reliving the good old 90s in 2 newly announced remakes. Aside from Lara’s attire, the titles are 0 to 100 remakes, retelling the tale of the legendary Tomb Raider.
Tomb Raider had its strong comeback on the video games scene back in 2013 when a rebooted version was released. Lara was almost a different girl fighting alongside his friends, who were all imprisoned on an abandoned island. However, the success led to 2 other sequels of Rise and Shadow of the Tomb Raider, putting an end to the raids.
Now, almost 6 years after the release of the last game, Crystal Dynamics is back with the Tomb Raider franchise, offering 2 remakes, the Legacy of Atlantis and Catalyst, reimagining the 1996 and 1997 classic titles. Interestingly enough, the games are set to release respectively in 2026 and 2027, exactly 30 years after the launch of their originals.
The developers had announced that they were not done with Lara Croft in the past couple of years, and the remaster of the classic titles and then the animated series were proof of that statement. However, I was expecting a refreshed rebooted series or maybe a continuation of what we left with Shadows years ago. A remake, or should I say, remakes, was not in our bingo list.
However, this really does bring this question into mind: Are there more Tomb Raider Remakes coming later after 2027? 1998 was the year that Tomb Raider 3 was released, and if 2028 is set for yet another remake, that’d make a golden trio for the Lara Croft comeback of the new generation.
