Woman Goes Nuclear Ahead of Holidays, Flees to Washington, D.C. to Avoid ‘Universally Insane’ In-Laws

Good for her!

Fed Up Washington, DC When Her ‘Universally Insane’ In-Laws Try to Visit for the Holidays

We all need some breathing room away from family from time to time. When it involves in-laws, some people get the luck of the draw. They might love spending time with their mother-in-law or father-in-law, no matter what they’re doing. Other times, being around in-laws drives you absolutely insane. For one woman, she wasn’t about to stick around when her in-laws announced they would be visiting before the holidays. So, when she found out about the plans, she booked a trip to Washington, DC to do some self-care.

Ryan (@lifewithryan.co) says that she doesn’t know why some in-laws are “universally insane.” Her in-laws announced recently that they were going to come and visit before the holidays. Ryan decided she wasn’t going to stick around for that. She booked a trip to Washington, D.C. for five days so she didn’t have to “over-extend” herself around her in-laws.

Would you skip town instead of white knuckling it though another visit with your in laws? This is day 1/5 and I HIGHLEY recommend leaving that man and his parents to go dilly dally #inlaws married-life #momoftiktok #inlawproblems #foryoupage

In her video, Ryan shows the fantastic and fun things she’s been doing instead of being at home “disrespected” by her rude in-laws. She goes out to eat at several restaurants, catches up with a friend, and sees tons of wonderful sights. She says “instead of pretending things are okey-dokey, I’ve been gallivanting around the city.” Ryan notes that she left her husband with his parents and her kids, and tells others that they should “do the same!”

Of course, people are going to have mixed feelings about this. Should you stay or should you go if you feel like you’ve been repeatedly disrespected by your in-laws? Should you support your husband and deal with it, or learn to walk away for your own well-being? In my opinion, she’s doing the best thing for her mental health. Hopefully, her husband is understanding and totally fine with entertaining his parents for an extended time. It sounds like they took things too far once or twice and Ryan is doing this for her peace.

One commenter exclaimed, “Love it! And ‘left that man with his kids and his parents’ needs to be a whole movement.” Another person stated, “Yea I don’t do disrespectful in-laws. It’s either you break up with them or I break up with you because I’m not doing a life where I have to be around them.” Nobody can blame them for feeling that way. When in-laws treat you like an enemy, you have to protect your peace.
