Taking responsibility for your actions can be hard, especially if you’ve potentially caused hundreds or thousands of dollars in damages. Of course, that doesn’t make it right to escape being accountable, but that’s exactly what a FedEx driver did when they drove through a homeowner’s carport in South Carolina. The roof was too low for the delivery van to fit through, yet the driver decided to plow through beneath the carport, damaging the beams and ceiling.

On top of being a pain to repair in effort and cost, the carport’s damages could have been much worse, had the pillars given way, and the whole thing come crashing down. Still, the FedEx driver chose to smash his way beneath the carport instead of backing out once he heard the creaking and breaking noises of the damage. The South Carolina homeowner says they filed a claim with FedEx, but no one has reached out to them for two weeks. “I’m mildly infuriated with FedEx and their lack of response,” they remark on Reddit. However, one person did eventually return to the scene of the crime: the driver himself.

The FedEx Driver Tried to Bribe Away His Mistake

“A man did come by yesterday, asking me to cancel the claim and he would pay for the damages himself,” the homeowner recalled. “I’m not taking this shady route.” The post’s top commenter, who went through a similar situation, strongly recommended OP take up the issue with the authorities. “I would go straight to the police the longer you wait the more likely it is the company will just say that it must have been damaged more after the video,” they suggest.

Others discuss why the driver didn’t back out from the start, and now why is he trying to bribe the homeowner for the carport damages? “How could someone possibly think that driving the rest of the way through was the best option?” questions one user. “The driver is going to get in major trouble with FedEx and his employer, the 3rd party,” explains another. “That’s why he wants you to cancel the claim and pay for it out of pocket.”

Informing the police about the whole ordeal would likely be the ideal move since FedEx isn’t responding. But it does seem like the unfortunate carport owner is in for more of a headache with this ordeal, regardless of what they choose to do.
