Rich TikToker Flexes First World Problems While Stressing Over New York Doorman Gifts: ‘Most People Give More’

This sounds like an incredibly expensive Christmas

New York TikToker Makes Most of Us Feel Poor as She Freaks Out, Wondering How She’ll Gift All the Doormen at Her Apartment Complex

If you’re blessed enough to live in an apartment complex with doormen, you’re probably living pretty well. Around the holidays, it’s generally reasonable for renters to include their doormen when they’re doing Christmas gifting. One TikToker living at a New York City apartment complex asked how much you generally tip your doormen around the holidays, as she considers just how many are working at her complex. It gives pause to many individuals who probably never considered these rich people’s problems.

TikToker Jaeda (@jaeda_skye) asks her audience a question that many of us probably never considered: “How much do you guys tip your doormen for the holidays?” She explains that she received a “very expensive happy holidays card” under her door. She said the card is likely their way of saying, “Don’t forget to give us a gift” during the holiday season. However, she said there are multiple doormen at her one apartment complex. She counts each one out and says there’s a total of 20 doormen just at her complex alone! Should she be expected to buy a gift for each one of them?

She says that buying a gift for every single one of them “seems a little much.” Obviously, a lot of people living in a ritzy complex aren’t going to be hurting for money. But for anybody, that’s a lot of extra people to consider in your holiday shopping. She questions her audience about whether she should be buying them an actual gift or giving them cash. And if she gives them cash, she asks how much she should be giving them. Jaeda says she doesn’t want to “embarrass” herself by gifting them too little. Most of us watching this are probably happy receiving a $10 gift card to our favorite coffee shop and never have to think about these ‘first world problems’.

One person commented, “Lived in luxury apartment on 57th Street. After the holidays ended I asked a doorman if the $100 tip I gave to everyone was sufficient ‘most people give more.’” Another commenter pointed out, “I cannot relate to this at all! You all are very fortunate to be able to give up to $50-$100 to 20 people. Most of us middle and working class folks just say Merry Christmas and give out homemade goodies.” It’s crazy how different your world looks at Christmastime when you’re rich.
