What happens when you just don’t vibe well with a roommate? In college, sometimes you’re paired with a person who wouldn’t regularly be your go-to choice as a roommate for the entire year. For one Pennsylvania college student, she and her roommate knew that their third roommate wasn’t right for them. After discovering that the roommate stole from them, they decided they’d had enough. In a couple hours, they pulled an ‘Irish goodbye’ and got out of that sticky situation.

Kiki (@kianasimoneee) shared a TikTok captioned, “Me and my roomie did an Irish goodbye on our kleptomaniac roommate, had to move everything in 6 hours.” In the video, you can see Kiana and her roommate gathering all their things and dancing as they push them to another room in their apartment hall. They show that their room was successfully cleared out. I can imagine the klepto roommate had quite the surprise when they showed up and saw their two other roommates missing!

Kiki shared an update video talking about why she and her roommate decided to skedaddle after they found out their roommate stole from them. One of the roommates noticed that, for some time, their stuff was going missing and their makeup was being used. After months of wondering what was happening to her things, including a missing jacket, she confronted her roommates. One of the roommates lied and said she wasn’t taking the things when she actually was. They caught her wearing some of the items she stole. The behavior continued until they decided they’d had enough.

Kiki and her other roommate decided that they were going to get a new apartment by themselves. They cleared out while their klepto roommate was gone. Since then, they’ve started their new lives without the thief roommate. However, the roommate blocked her on social media. This is the end of a friendship that was really never a friendship at all.

One commenter on Kiki’s video shared their own story of pulling off the ultimate Irish goodbye. She commented, “I pulled an Irish goodbye on Sunday and left my soon to be ex husband. Halfway across the country by the time he realized I was gone.” Another person shared, “Attempted an Irish goodbye while having 4 roommates. 1 of them walked in on me packing. Hit them with the ‘going home for the long weekend, gotta bring my Xbox’ worked like a charm.” Sometimes, you just have to do what’s best for you and protect that peace from toxic people.
