A receipt no longer seems to exonerate a person from theft, as a Walmart employee in Colorado put on a dramatic display by accusing a customer of stealing. In a video posted on X, the camera panned across the store as the customer filmed the encounter, focusing on the employee confronting him.
“Go get your manager,” the customer demanded after repeatedly asking the employee to move out of his way so he could leave, a request the employee ignored. “You are the one stopping me. Here’s my receipt,” the customer said again, pointing out that the employee refused to call a manager while continuing to detain him.
The employee eventually signaled to another person to get the manager while standing his ground and telling the customer, “We can stand here all day.” Angrily, the customer fired back, citing that the employee was underpaid. The employee did everything within his power to stop the customer from leaving, even blocking his path as he attempted to exit the store. He did so without restraint, fully visible on camera.
“You cannot legally do that, you are standing on me,” the customer repeatedly said, calling out how illegal the employee’s actions were. Still, the employee refused to budge and even told him to post the video, showing he did not care. The situation escalated further when the employee pushed the customer’s goods back into the store. Eventually, someone who appeared to be the manager arrived and de-escalated the situation.
The employee walked away grudgingly, insisting he had not gone physical with the customer, while the manager checked the receipt and allowed the customer to leave with his items. The comments section wasted no time calling out the employee’s behavior. “Doing all that for $9/hr is class traitor behavior,” someone wrote. Another commenter stated plainly, “The man did nothing wrong and had his receipt in hand; I don’t see what the problem was.”
A netizen warned store workers, “Some of these store workers don’t get that they are not Superman and are gonna end up [expletive] hurt messing with people.” Another user pointed out, “That’s so illegal. It’s even illegal to make you show your receipt, but we all do it.” One person didn’t mince words, writing, “The employee is horrible. Should be fired for not checking the receipt (for purchases and timestamp) and failing to interact with the customer professionally and with courtesy.”
Another added, “That associate did everything wrong. You are not allowed to even touch the cart. I’I be surprised if this associate still has a job,” while someone else reiterated, “If you have a receipt, that means you brought the items. Apparently, that’s a hard concept to understand for some people.” One commenter joked about his job choice, “Normally i would be like fire him, but i think working at Walmart is punishment enough 😂.”
