It’s normal for people to respect houses and driveways that don’t belong to them. However, that’s not always the case, leading to quite a few fights over homeowners defending their property lines. But these homeowners in Austin, Texas, had a much more ridiculous experience when they discovered that a family had parked their truck in their driveway. Not only that, but they abandoned the vehicle completely.
Redditor RetroDreaming shared on r/Austin that they had left home at noon the previous day and decided to check the security cameras in the afternoon. To their surprise, this Austin homeowner discovered that someone had parked a truck at their house for who knows how long. So OP started searching through the recordings on their camera app. There, OP discovered that around 10:30 a.m., a family arrived in the mysterious truck and parked it at their house. Then, a few minutes later, a second car, a Volvo, also arrived at OP’s home. That’s when the family got out of the truck to load their bags and get into the Volvo, then left, leaving the car behind.
Realizing that something was wrong, the homeowner called the County Sheriff’s non-emergency line. The officers did show up, checked the truck, and found nothing unusual and that it had not been reported stolen. The sheriff even called the registered owners, but the man’s number was out of service, and the woman’s went straight to voicemail.
“I think they parked in the wrong driveway. They look way too comfortable to be doing anything sketchy,” said fairybus3.
“Your neighbor knows youre gone and is letting their family use your driveway,” commented CodySmash.
Comments like these were repeated many times in the post, along with other theories that the family may have thought the driveway belonged to someone who allowed them to park there, and got the wrong house. Another theory is that the Volvo was actually an Uber. So this family may have come from far away to catch a flight and thought that leaving their truck in OP’s driveway would save them a few dollars on the Uber ride and parking. This is because OP explained that the airport is 20 minutes from their house. It’s still unclear what the train of thought was behind leaving their car abandoned at a strange house.
For now, the truck remains there, silent, monitored by cameras, because the cops couldn’t do anything to it. And if OP wants a tow truck to take it away, they would have to pay for it, since their house is private property.
