Most of us expect to have a relaxing time during the holidays, but unfortunately, some people out there, for better or worse, just give us a lot of stress and ruin this time of year. One example is careless drivers who sometimes seem way too distracted by other things and end up causing vehicular mayhem. A situation like this happened on Christmas Eve in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where a driver rear-ended another vehicle, but instead of stopping, hit the gas and continued to damage the car while also creating a huge cloud of smoke around everyone on the road.
The video comes from the Dashcam Subreddit, where one driver from Philadelphia shared the unfortunate incident. In the footage, you can observe a couple of cars driving slowly on the highway, when one white truck rear-ends a sedan-type vehicle. The person inside the truck, instead of stopping, seems to confuse the brakes for the gas, stepping on the pedal and accelerating, creating a cloud of smoke.
The silver lining of this collision is that the white truck was driving slowly, which led to a somewhat less-damaging accident. Still, at least three cars got involved in the crash because you can also see how the black SUV at the front stops, meaning that the sedan hit it, too.
Many people wondered if the one in the truck was having some kind of medical emergency that led him to hit the gas instead of the brakes. However, the OP mentioned that all drivers from all three vehicles stepped out, and no one needed medical attention, suggesting the culprit just panicked when trying to hit the brakes.
In any case, the one in the truck ruined many people’s day, and several Redditors were quick to make fun of the distracted driver.
“Gotta create a smoke screen so they can escape,” commented one user.
“Gotta do a quick, sick burnout to make it seem intentional,” said another person.
Even if it was an unfortunate situation, those involved should be thankful, as this outcome wasn’t too bad. As we mentioned above, the white truck’s slow speed prevented further damage. That doesn’t justify the driver’s actions, however. They were not paying attention while behind the wheel and will have to deal with the consequences. We can only hope that all those in the collision reached an agreement and went on their way to enjoy their Christmas.
