What started as a typical traffic stop on bustling Guadalupe Street ended up being a simple and quick call for attention with a genuine trooper as the protagonist. This is because a State Trooper in Austin, Texas, stopped a motorcyclist, but when he got out of the police car, the car kept moving because it had no brakes. It was undoubtedly something out of a police comedy sketch.
Redditor MonkFromSaturn_97 shared the video from orion.atx’s Instagram, the motorcyclist who appears in the video. In the recording, you can see an Austin State Trooper pull over the motorcyclist, and so far, so good, until the officer gets out of his police truck and it rolls slightly toward the road because the brakes weren’t on. So the trooper jumped like a ninja into the moving patrol car, trying to stop it by applying the brakes. It was actually quite a funny scene, but the motorcyclist managed to keep his composure and follow the officer’s orders. Finally, the trooper returned triumphantly to the motorcyclist, only to hear over the radio of another nearby chase that needed his immediate attention. In the blink of an eye, he left the poor, surprised motorcyclist behind and sped off toward the subsequent urban chaos. But not before warning the motorcyclist to be more careful.
Several comments affectionately teased the trooper for forgetting to apply the parking brake. Others discussed how calm the trooper was throughout the entire interaction. A few more said they knew the police officer or had seen the scene as they were passing by.
“Just a little new boot goofin to get the day going!” commented hairballcouture.
“This same exact state trooper pulled me over between San Antonio and Austin. I must admit he let me go with no citations when he could have nailed me for at least two things,” said esponsibleTicket50.
To this specific comment, the user z64_dan added, “I mean, he seems like a pretty chill state trooper, honestly. ‘Well, now you know, so walk it back‘”.
In general, many of those who appear to be Austin residents say this officer is calm and prefers to teach drivers to respect the rules and drive more carefully rather than just issuing tickets. A couple of other people also said that sometimes, if drivers weren’t always rude to officers, things wouldn’t escalate so much, and that it’s better not to overreact when you’re in the wrong.
