You’d think serving drinks to golfers on a golf course would be a pretty straightforward gig. However, footage shared by a popular TikToker based in California tells a different story, showing her being ridiculed by one of her patrons for not having his specific drink order ready quickly enough. While the beverage cart attendant handled the situation well, the video has since circulated online and amassed over 3.2 million views.
The video, which was originally shared by TikToker @zalaiyanefwani, has since made the rounds on Reddit, and sees the polite beverage cart attendant sitting in a golf cart as she speaks with a client on the golf course where she works. The caption in the clip reads, “A golfer really tried to check me“. Sporting an orange blouse, the golf course employee is seen taking payment for some drinks that a golfer has ordered.
Initially, the golfer is a little surprised by the price of his drinks. “$70? Seven. Zero?” to which the cart girl responds playfully, “Yep. I’m not playing with you.” Off-camera, the customer retorts, “I know you’re not playing. Give me $20 back.” which means that the golfer has kindly given the patron a $10 tip. As the golf employee gives back his change, she politely replies, “There you go, darling.” However, this is the point where things take a sudden turn.
“Let me tell you something. If you were smart, you would make our drinks then roll up and say, here you go, I got you.” exclaims the entitled golfer in a slightly patronising manner. This doesn’t sit too well with the beverage cart assistant, who replies, “If I was smart. I am smart. But you see, I was smart, because they were done before you were finished hitting so you didn’t have to wait for me to make the drinks. So I think that’s pretty smart.” In the background, you can hear another golfer chortling to themselves, while the customer continues to argue with her.
Continuing to explain herself, she states, “You don’t always want that. I know you. Sometimes you want something different. If you guys stuck with your order–” though this doesn’t seem to placate the customer, as he continues to talk over her, saying, “When we walk in the bar, they say, we got you. We got you. It’s already set up.” Though visibly frustrated, the beverage cart attendant keeps her composure and responds, “Okay, so I’m gonna just make you straight liquor every time.” as she smiles in an attempt to defuse the confrontation. “You guys are gonna be faded. I’ll see you on the back.” she says giggling to herself, which confuses the group. “What’s faded?” asks the golfer. “Faded? Turned up.” explains the woman politely, which essentially means extremely inebriated.
At the end of the clip, the TikToker reflects and gives a little more context to the viewers to help clue them in to what just happened. “They really tried to come for me, talking about if I was smart, their drinks would’ve been ready. They’re my regulars and they’re always smartasses. Like, they give me a hard time jokingly. So I didn’t take it to heart. But I’m like [expletive]. Everytime I see them, sometimes they want an ultra. Sometimes, they want a bloody mary. Sometimes, they want a tequila and red bull. Sometimes, they want a tequila grapefruit. How am I supposed to have your drink ready when you don’t even know what you want everytime I see you with something different. Trying to check me. That’s why your drink was ready before you were done hitting. So I didn’t mess up your pace of play and you were ready to drink.”
As the video continues to make the rounds online, social media users have taken to the comments to show their support for the patient and polite beverage cart assistant. On TikTok, one user wrote, “That’s a lot of talking for a $10 tip” while over on Reddit, one person wrote, “Her side. These rich [expletives] want us to serve on our knees“. A third penned, “Her side. I would’ve told those guys to [expletive] off.” A fourth summed up my thoughts on the situation, expressing, “She had their drink ready with what they wanted and they still found a reason to complain“.
