New Hampshire Bishop Tells His Clergy at Renee Good Vigil To ‘Have Their Wills Written’ In Powerful Message About Fighting ‘Powers Of This World’

Ready to lay down their lives

Following the gruesome shooting of motorist Renee Good, a New Hampshire bishop has decided that the country warrants more than words, but also actions. The religious leader encouraged his clergy to “get their affairs in order” in preparation for whatever was to come as they joined the fight.

This is a powerful testament to the moment we are in and the courage it demands. Speaking at a candlelight vigil in Concord, New Hampshire this week, Bishop A. Robert Hirschfeld told the crowd that he has asked his Episcopal clergy to get their affairs and their wills in order “because it may be that now is no longer the time for statements, but for us with our bodies to stand between the powers of this world and the most vulnerable.” We are praying all might be safe and well as we do the work of justice in this perilous time.

The bishop made the declaration in an emotional TikTok video while surrounded by other mourners at a vigil for Good, who was shot by an ICE agent a couple of days ago.  “I have told the Episcopal Diocese of New Hampshire that we may be entering into that same witness. And I’ve asked them to get their affairs in order, to make sure they have their wills written,” he announced. The religious leader stated that it was beyond the time for talking, “It may be now is no longer the time for statements, but for us with our bodies, to stand between the powers of this world and the most vulnerable.”

Many netizens supported the bishop’s declaration, and others were even more moved by the religious leader actually practicing what Christianity stands for. “It’s time for all of us to put our bodies on the line,” one wrote, echoing what the bishop had said to his clergy. “Someone who actually read the Bible right there,” another user praised, and a second added, “It would appear that we actually do have some real Christians among us.”

“God protect you, fathers! We must stand up to the antichrist,” a TikToker stated, while another one said, “When our religious leaders believe they may die, we are in a very dark place.”  A netizen wrote, “Trump will order that this church’s tax exemption be revoked by the IRS. [expletive] guarantee,” predicting the backlash that the video would incur for the church.

“A lot of us are feeling this way,” another confessed. “Why am I tearing up watching this? Powerful,” a last user wrote.

Other religious leaders have also joined the fight. Just last week, a Minnesota pastor opened up about his experience after being detained by ICE. According to The Nerd Stash, the pastor explained that he had joined one of the anti-ICE protests, where they were chanting, “We are not afraid, we are not afraid, go, get out of our state, we are not afraid.”

He then recounted that he saw a couple of ICE agents surrounding a Hispanic woman, and he went to help her out. He then asked the agents to take him instead of the woman. His act of heroism probably pissed the agent off. One of them pointed his weapon at the pastor’s face, asking if he was afraid now.

When the pastor maintained that he was not scared of them, even after they had detained him in their car and asked multiple times, they made a statement so racist that the pastor shared that he was sincerely astounded by it. “Well, you’re White. You won’t be any fun anyway. You can get out of the car,” the agents said, releasing him.
