Survival crafting fans have been waiting for Hytale for a decade, but how big was its launch, really? Well, apparently, the long-awaited sandbox RPG appears to be off to a very, very strong start. Hypixel Studios co-founder Simon Collins-Laflamme claimed that Hytale cracked 2.8 million concurrent players just hours after it launched on a weekday.
“2.8 [million] at the moment, I’ve got the admin panel up still,” he wrote when asked about it in the 100-player Hytale News Multiplayer Server. The message was captured during Hytale News’s livestream, and viewers quickly began sharing the screenshot across social media.
As of writing, however, Hypixel Studios has not issued a formal statement regarding that number, nor clarified whether it refers to concurrent players, total logins, purchases, or another metric. There is also no third-party player tracker for Hytale for now, leaving no way to independently verify the claim.
Adding to the informal announcement, Simon previously acknowledged extremely high traffic on their game. On an X post, he wrote that the Hypixel team was seeing a “VERY HIGH rate of new Hytale players,” warning that some users might encounter login or email issues as a result of the surge.
What is verifiable, though, is the game’s early visibility. On launch day, Hytale has surpassed 420,000 concurrent viewers on Twitch, showing huge interest shortly after release. This obviously aligns with — and exceeds — the developer’s own expectations of more than 1 million players at launch.
Some fans saw this as a massive win for the fanbase and community. “Eat your heart out subreddit lol, wrote Tumblrrito on Reddit.
“Back during the dark days, people here were so adamant that the game needed constant hype during development or it was doomed whenever it released. The game lost so much hype that it fucking DIED, and lookie here, its doing just fine.”
G_aster suggested that the player count would spike even higher later, “Its a Tuesday, people are at work and school. No way the number of people on dosent go up when people get out of work and school”
