Bandai Namco and anime studio Toei Animation have officially announced a new Dragon Ball game project, titled AGE 1000. Although the reveal is just a short 2-minute teaser that’s light on details, it’s already set off alarms among die-hard fans — in a good way. Dragon Ball AGE 1000 is targeting a 2027 release and promises a ‘brand-new world’ and ‘original characters’ designed by Akira Toriyama, a detail that immediately raises the hype.
The teaser trailer shown during the Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri 2026 event introduces a mysterious white-haired character wearing a jacket with a red-green-black color scheme. It featured ‘GS’ lettering — perhaps invoking a Great Saiyaman reference — and Capsule Corp logos, training in an empty industrial space before transforming into a Super Saiyan.
Genkidamatsuri also featured a new DLC teaser for Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero. Highlighting new characters like Super Saiyan Bardock, Demon King Piccolo from the original series, and Super Android 17 from GT. Bandai Namco also confirmed that additional costumes, super moves, and stages are on the way for the popular fighting game.
However, what’s interesting is that Dragon Ball AGE 1000 isn’t just picking a random number for its name. In Dragon Ball lore, it’s the exact era in which Dragon Ball Online took place, the now-defunct MMO released back in 2010. Akira Toriyama was also deeply involved with the post-Dragon Ball Z future; he both designed characters and oversaw major story elements. That included lore in which Gohan eventually revealed the existence of Ki and essentially allowed human martial artists to learn to fight on a Saiyan’s level.
After Dragon Ball Online shut down, much of its world and ideas lived on through the Xenoverse series. Now, it’s only natural that fans are wondering whether AGE 1000 is quietly tapping into that same legacy once again.
Bandai Namco hasn’t confirmed any direct connection, and for now, everything remains speculative. The company said that additional details will be revealed at Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2026, scheduled for April 18-19.
Still, mention of Toriyama’s name has sparked a bigger question. Could Dragon Ball AGE 1000 actually revive Dragon Ball Online in a new format, or is it setting the stage for a new Xenoverse game? After all, Xenoverse 2 has been expanded so much through a decade’s worth of DLC. Next year would be a perfect time for Xenoverse 3.
