Troll or authentic, trying to convince people to watch Melania Trump‘s movie with bribery is a hilarious idea, and some madlad or lady in Boston, Massachusetts, was bold enough to pull it off. Posting to Craigslist, they offered free tickets plus $50 to see the documentary about the President’s wife. It wasn’t long, however, before the seller was pressured to shut down the offer, claiming that it was due to “widespread coverage and backlash,” along with possible issues with “campaign finance laws.”
Of course, they weren’t going to just let their amazing bargain get shot down without saying a few choice words. “As usual, this is the fault of the lunatic left and their corrupt election laws,” they exclaim. “They HATE America and will do anything to destroy this country.” The person then concludes with praises for Melania and her film’s success, “On the bright side, this incredible film is now SOLD OUT everywhere, with box office success like no one has EVER seen.”
Regarding whether the “sold out” part is actually true, several Redditors shared screenshots of the available seating in theaters for Melania. As expected, plenty of seats were empty. One user claiming to live “deep in MAGA country” says that even Trump supporters aren’t buying tickets to the movie. One thing’s for sure: the movie is definitely becoming popular, no small thanks to the internet memes and jokes that people make from it.
As for the Craigslist seller, many believe this Melania bribe was just a ragebait post to gain attention from both sides of the political spectrum. As one person puts it, the seller put up the ad, garnered widespread internet and media attention, then claimed they can’t pay out due to their so-called issues. “It’s the line about Amazon that breaks it for me,” says a Redditor. “We all know it’s a bribe, but they’re not quite stupid enough to say ‘lol, we can’t bribe you even though this movie is a bribe from Amazon’.”
“Anyone who believes this Craigslist post is anything other than a troll post it’s just as stupid as MAGA,” remarks another. At the very least, it gave the people who understood the offer to be ragebait a good laugh.
