When I think back on a list of movies that summarize my childhood, Predator is at the top of the list.  I would describe the movie in my personal history of film as iconic.  So, you might be able to understand my excitement and subsequent disappointment over the past years when attempts at returning to the glory days of the original Predator have been made… and failed.  I would equate it to the feeling you get when finally leaving a bad relationship, a little wiser for what happened and quite a bit more head shy for the future.  The newest installment, The Predator, directed and co-written by Shane Black along with Fred Dekker, is said to occur some 30 years after the events of the first two Predator movies.  You may know Mr. Black as Hawkins, the tragically unfunny radio operator from the original movie.

The addition of someone so close to the first film gives me some hope that the newest film may be able to reach my expectations.  After seeing the trailer, I am cautiously optimistic.  From what I am seeing it will be filled with action, like the original, but I also get a sense of the second Alien versus Predator, which makes me a little more than concerned.  The locations seem similar, both happening in rural America, both having scenes in a school and involving young people, and both highlight the involvement of a military fringe central character.  The movie is set to release on September 14 of this year and will star Olivia Munn, Boyd Holbrook, Keegan-Michael Key, Thomas Jane, Jake Busey and Edward James Olmos just to name a few.  So, slather on the mud and get yourself to the nearest choppa, because come September we’re gonna be in for quite the ride…hopefully!
