Microsoft has just announced a new controller for the Xbox One that is primarily designed to help gamers with disabilities.

Xbox One

The controller is fully customizable so that gamers who cannot use both of their hands or have limited mobility can still play and enjoy their favorite Xbox games. Here is Microsoft’s official reveal of the new controller that explains how it works and how it affects disabled gamers:

Solomon Romney, who was born without fingers on his left hand and was seen in the video above, is a Microsoft Stores retail learning specialist and he’s been playing with the controller for months. On Microsoft’s official site, Romney went into detail on how this new device has helped him play games. Here is an excerpt from that interview:

“I can customize how I interface with the Xbox Adaptive Controller to whatever I want. If I want to play a game entirely with my feet, I can. I can make the controls fit my body, my desires, and I can change them anytime I want. You plug in whatever you want and go. It takes virtually no time to set it up and use it. It could not be simpler.

I get to redesign my controller every day and get to choose how I want to play. For me, that’s the greatest thing ever.”

AbleGamers, a non-profit charity, has been working with Microsoft on this project over the last few years. They put out this statement:

“Our thanks goes out to the Xbox Accessibility team will continue to be great partners in this journey to make gaming a possibility for every player. We couldn’t be more excited to start granting out XACs to players, and we look forward to all the possibilities this new device will open for our mission.  Our work continues #SoEveryoneCanGame”

The new adaptive Xbox One controller will cost $99. Although it doesn’t have a release date yet, Microsoft has confirmed that it will be at E3 2018.
