Today’s State of Play was one of the best we’ve seen in many years, and, so far, the best showcase of 2026. Besides the dozens of games that were announced, Santa Monica Studios and Sony closed the show with two monumental announcements. For starters, we now know that the God of War Trilogy Remake is in active development, but instead of waiting for a new adventure alongside Kratos, we got the new God of War: Sons of Sparta, which releases today, taking us to the beginning of the Ghost of Sparta and a never-before-seen perspective for the series.

God of War Trilogy Remake Is Now in Development

The first announcement came from none other than the first voice actor of Kratos, Terrence C. Carson, who told us all that the God of War Trilogy Remake is now in active development. There aren’t a lot of details about these remakes, but many are already wondering if it will follow the same gameplay style of Ragnarok, or return to a more hack-and-slash approach, which is what we all saw in the original games. Hopefully, Santa Monica Studios and Sony will unveil more details, as we are really curious to see how these remakes will look and, most importantly, play.

The next major surprise was the reveal and shadow drop of God of War: Sons of Sparta. This title takes us to the beginnings of Kratos, before he was known as the Ghost of Sparta or the god-killer that we saw in the original trilogy. Here, we play as a young Kratos, as he trains in the Agoge next to his brother Deimos. Another monumental change of this entry, compared to its predecessor or the new RPGs, is the style, both in terms of visuals and gameplay. This entry plays entirely in a 2D perspective with gorgeous pixelated graphics.

While we have to wait for the God of War Trilogy Remake a bit longer, we can see Kratos’ origins today, and by the looks of it, people are already loving it. So, it is time to dust off our Spartan warrior skills and jump into a new adventure alongside this iconic character.
