Time certainly flies, as it seems that it was only yesterday when we got our first character for Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves season 2. And while that fiery Taekwondo fighter did a terrific job at opening the stage for more post-launch fighters, Nightmare Geese is here to take the crown of this new season pass. While many know him as one of the toughest bosses in the game, his playable version is just as destructive and will likely be the bane of many fighters who dare face him.
Nightmarish Moves

Season 2 keeps on rolling, and this time I got to try Nightmare Geese ahead of its release in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. So far, we’ve seen fighters with varied kits, most of them catering to one specific playstyle. In the case of our new challenger, he delivers some of the strongest combos in the game, with a few even letting you fight through some of your opponent’s blows, and a few moves that excel at keeping everyone at bay. However, despite his offensive capabilities, his defense and mobility lack considerably.
For starters, Nightmare Geese’s gameplay revolves around chaining his Fuduo Ken with different other moves, with almost every button input performing a different combo. They aren’t too hard to pull off on any of the control schemes, which makes Nightmare Geese oddly accessible.
Some of my favorite moves, however, were his specials, as most of them just focus on letting your enemy get closer to you, only for Nightmare Geese to either blast them with an energy wave or lift them before sending them flying to the other side of the arena. These were a bit more challenging to pull off due to the timing behind each move, yet once you succeed at any of them, fighters will want to keep their distance.
Ironically, and despite Nightmare Geese being one of the most terrifying fighters in the game, it felt extremely simple to play, and I say that in a good way. Yet, it is more suitable for players who prefer waiting around for the enemy to approach, which leads to my one minor caveat.
Even if his combos are extremely powerful, there’s a lack of mobility in almost everything. Gap closers are almost nonexistent, at least compared to Mr. Big or other recent characters we’ve seen. Also, Nightmare Geese doesn’t have many long-range options, meaning that you’ll have some risky fights ahead of you if you’re planning to main this fighter. Yet, it is one of the DLC characters I’ve enjoyed the most, as his low skill floor is great for newcomers, but more complicated combos might require the most veteran South Town fighters out there.
The Ghost of South Town

Overall, I enjoyed Nightmare Gesse much more than the recent Kim Jae Hoon. While both of the new season 2 characters have their strength, Geese is much more accessible for new players. Still, that doesn’t diminish the high skill ceiling this fighter has. And despite the lack of mobility and certain defensive options, once you start landing consecutive moves with this relentless ghost, few opponents will be able to escape your onslaught.
