The current upheaval in Mexico due to the cartel violence isn’t enough to deter this Orlando, Florida, woman from packing her bags and jumping on the plane. However, many believe she is chasing dangerous clout.
“Should you cancel your trip to Mexico right now?” the woman began in a TikTok video. The blogger noted that she had received many comments asking whether going to Mexico at this time was a wise decision. “I have checked in with Nacho, who is like a brother to me. He lives in Cancun and has a transportation company there,” she stated, sharing that she was going to Mexico the very next day, because Nacho had assured her that “there is more police presence right now, because of what is happening in Mexico, but everything is fine in Cancun, there are no issues.”
The adventurous Florida resident then added that another issue could be the “government shutdown,” which might or might not have been lifted yet. However, she was bent on being the one to spill the actual tea. “I’m still going,” she noted as she shared that she had gotten “travel insurance. Just to be safe.” She encouraged her viewers to follow for live updates, and true to her word, she posted another TikTok video of herself at Orlando airport, set to leave for Mexico.
She enthusiastically shared that, although a couple of people had said most of the planes would be grounded, hers wouldn’t. The blogger gave a disclaimer that she was not trying to give anyone travel advice; however, she encouraged them to stay tuned, as she promised to provide live updates. “I think everything is fine; everything is gonna be great,” she noted.
Parts of Mexico were engulfed in flames as members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) took to the streets, burning properties and vehicles to avenge the killing of their leader, known as “El Mencho.”
Netizens were flabbergasted by the blogger’s decisions. “Travel insurance? Better get LIFE INSURANCE,” one jested. “Fast forward to a week: I’m stuck in Cancun and can’t get home,” another predicted. Some users turned to sarcasm. “When the cartel comes to your hotel, tell them you know NACHO,” one wrote. “Let’s ignore the USA government advisory because Nacho said it was ok,” another joked. “Your vacation is much too important to cancel over a few cartel members. Go have fun,” a user jested.
A few TikTokers pointed out the level of irresponsibility she displayed. “Man, this is irresponsible advice. Dangerous,” one wrote. “It’s honestly irresponsible to go straight into a dangerous situation. That’s exactly how people end up looking for trouble… It’s better to cancel the trip and wait until things calm down. No plane ticket is worth risking your life,” another noted.
“Imagine putting your life at risk for TikTok clout,” one slammed, and another responded, “Insanely foolish behavior.”
