There’s nothing wrong with being a little frugal to save money every now and then, especially in our present economy. However, it’s guaranteed infuriating whenever someone tries to be thrifty at others’ expense, which is exactly what one Florida landlord did when he had his tenant’s entryway painted. While details about who the owner hired to do the job aren’t mentioned, it’s clear from the tenant’s photos posted to Reddit that the men were anything but professionals.
“They painted over my Ring Camera, peephole, and removed my apartment number,” sighed the renter. One commenter recalled how they went full Karen when nearby builders carelessly let sheet rock fly around, cutting their AT&T line. “What complete morons,” remarked another user. Some people added that it was high time the tenant got rid of the Ring Camera, given the brand’s controversial use of private data. Still, painting over someone’s security camera is unprofessionally reckless enough, but to remove and fail to replace the apartment number is worse, as someone pointed out.
“The peephole and camera are safety issues too, aside from the expense of the ring camera,” the commenter says. They continue, “The apartment number is a safety issue if you need to call emergency services. I’d be complaining daily.” And plenty of people agree; there’s no way they’d let their landlord or landlady get away with such sloppy renovation on their home. “I love seeing comments from people who have never had the pleasure of being ripped off by a slumlord,” laughs a Redditor, assuming that “management’s cousin probably painted” the entryway.
Actually, the two people who did the paint job, as OP explains, were “the complex maintenance guy / grounds keeper and his buddy.” Considering how they failed to do any prep work and didn’t even bother cleaning up after they were done, the two individuals are likely closely affiliated with the Florida landlord and did the job at a cost lower than that of actual professionals.
At the very least, they put tape on the tenant’s door inside while trashing everything around it, including the floor, stairs, and outer front door. It goes to show that some slumlords will do anything to do what they think is saving money, when the mess they leave behind is much worse on the renter.
