Work. Everyone has to do some of it at some point, because hey, those roads aren’t going to pave themselves. Those documents aren’t going to print themselves. And budgets aren’t going to magically solve themselves, either. But why does it have to be so miserable? One Arizona woman wants to know the secret. When she shared on TikTok how much she detests working, she was flooded with comments from like-minded people offering advice and sympathy.
“I feel like such a brat when I say this but I hate working. I hate getting ready for work; I hate going into work; I hate being an hour into a shift; I hate saying ‘hi’ to people; I hate being perceived; I hate smiling,” Sasha (@countblabla) rants about in her TikTok video. It doesn’t matter what job she’s at. It could be two months into a new job, and she’s already thinking, “I [expletive] hate this job.”
Moments later, she first considers it might be “poor work ethic” or being “lazy,” but then shares she’s done competitive gymnastics before. Not to mention working at 15 and keeping straight As in school. She’s no stranger to putting in the work for something important. “I know everyone hates working, but I hate working so much,” Sashs emphasizes again.
She then brings up, presumably, one of her co-workers, who must have been putting in some serious time that day. Sasha is dumbfounded and wonders what the secret is, “I’m so jealous of all of these pretty young girls that have these gorgeous highrise apartments, and I’m just thinking, ‘How are we doing it?’” On that note, she admits her bills haven’t been paid in two months.
She says part of the problem is in fact her taking opportunities to go home early or declining more hours. Passions don’t seem like an option either because “everything seems pointless.” She admits too, she struggles to make the connection of how people get involved in their passions to begin with.
Hilariously, through her own ranting and talking out loud, she suddenly comes to a realization: “I wanna stay home and I wanna cook and I wanna clean.” Even saying that out loud, she still can’t help but feel like a “brat” and she ends her video because, you know, she’s got work to do.
Given how Sasha expressed herself, the comment section of her TikTok was surprisingly supportive of her attitude. It wasn’t so much as people expressing laziness, but a longing for more time.
One commenter claiming to have “good work ethic” expressed they have “zero desire” for their job. “No amount of money motivates me either,” they added.
“8hrs is so long to be at one place too,” one commenter argued. That’s an entire third of the day, with another third meant for sleeping. Eight hours doesn’t sound like a lot of time to spend with friends and family.
“You don’t sound lazy you sound tired,” another commenter suggested. And this might very well be the case. If she’s ready to quit after a few months at a new job, it’s time to find her passion.
Another person argued the “working class” hate working because there’s no “reward” for the labor they put in. Whatever the reason may be, it’s obvious people in the U.S. aren’t having their needs met in the workplace.
