While plenty of people have been torn between supporting Israel and Gaza, without a doubt, there are plenty of Palestinians in need of aid. Any help and support for the Palestinian people would naturally be welcome, but some allegedly see it as a PR opportunity, namely the Sussexes. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made global news with their latest tour to the Middle East, stopping in Jordan to visit a refugee camp and a hospital.
While they reportedly received a warm welcome, plenty of critics weren’t too happy with the ex-royal’s visit, including Palestinian Ambassador to the Ivory Coast, Abdal Karim Ewaida. Posting to X, Ewaida tweeted in French about what a disgrace Prince Harry was with his visit to the refugee camp and hospital. Translated via Grok AI, the Palestinian Ambassador says how sad it is to see that “our sick children are being used as props for celebrities in the middle of a full-blown public relations operation.”
Ewaida continues, pointing out how Prince Harry and Meghan Markle ignored doing anything for the people of Gaza when things were at their worst during the war with Israel. He concludes, saying not forget how Harry “always refused” to boycott the Israeli team at his Invictus Games charity event, despite Israel being publicly charged with genocide. Author Ambereen Dadabhoy agreed on X, posting: “Harry lets Israeli genocidaires play in his Invictus Games. You should be happy 🤡.”
Again, the act of supporting, donating to, or even visiting Palestinians in need isn’t what angered people; it’s the hypocrisy of the Sussexes when their past actions sent a completely different message. The situation is comparable to when Prince Harry visited Ukraine or when he and his wife showed up during the LA fires. As one Redditor puts it, “[It’s] trauma tourism at its worst.”
Prince Harry isn’t the only one receiving backlash for using suffering Palestinians as “props” for positive PR. Meghan Markle was seen on video posing in front of a potential amputee and other hospital patients, but was nowhere to be seen when her dad had his leg amputated. Online commenters accuse her of “overreacting” to the patient’s situation. “Pretending to care. Her acting is terrible,” remarks a Reddit user.
And of course, it’s hard to forget about what happened to Andrew recently on his birthday, now that King Charles has finally bent to what the public’s been demanding for years. Yet, neither Prince William nor Prince Harry has made any comment on the matter, even though plenty of critics want to hear what the two nephews of Epstein’s infamous royal friend knew about the situation. Whatever the case, this Jordan visit turned out to be quite the PR disaster for the Sussexes.
