Riding the subway in New York isn’t always easy. Between packed carriages, unexpected delays, and the nonstop pace of the city, it can leave even seasoned commuters feeling a little frazzled. With that in mind, a man began harassing a fellow subway rider simply for smiling at him. Thankfully, another passenger stepped in to defend the victim, and was filmed angrily confronting the alleged bully. The video is currently circulating online.
The video is filmed on a busy New York subway train from the perspective of the passenger who has stepped in to defend the person being harassed. It appears the bullying incident occurred before the camera started recording. The clip opens with the would-be “knight in shining armor” confronting the alleged bully, who is standing with a phone in hand and wearing a grey cap, grey jacket, and black trousers.
“Bro, he’s not worrying about you smiling, living his life. You want to bother him, pick on somebody that’s like that, [N-word]. Ask me why I’m smiling at you, [N-word]? Hi, hi, hi. I’m smiling at you. Ask me that, [N-word]. The [expletive]. You want to ask somebody that’s not doing [expletive], minding his business. Ask me!” snaps the New York hero.
The “bully” tries to explain himself, but it’s difficult to discern what he says due to the background noise of the subway train. Whatever he says, the person recording disagrees with him, stating, “No, no. You threatened him, [N-word]. I seen it. I’m like that. Ask me. Ask me why I’m smiling at you like that. Ask me why I’m smiling at you like that.” he fires back at the New Yorker, but the bully clearly doesn’t want to pick a fight with him, and seems intimidated by the man.
Continuing his rant directed at the alleged bully, the man filming says, “All right. You [expletive]! You pick and choose your battles. He was minding his business and paying you no [expletive] mind. You’s a [expletive]. You’s a [expletive]. I hope you know that.” To this, the man just replies, “Okay.” and the person filming ends the clip stating, “Exactly.“
As the footage of the heroic New York man’s actions continue to make the rounds online, netizens flocked to the comments to share their thoughts. On Reddit, one user remarked, “Gotta love a bully getting bullied video” while another chimed in with, “There’s always a bigger fish“. Meanwhile, over on Instagram, others championed the bravery of the New Yorker, penning, “I support this. He’s a good man” while another added, “Top 10 new york subway respect moments“.
