Racial profiling has long been a concern for people of color in the United States. A recent viral video involving a young woman in Miami, Florida, who says she was pulled over by local police 21 times in a single month has left viewers divided. Is she being targeted?
According to the 21-year-old Florida woman, she recently purchased her dream car, a brand-new McLaren Artura. However, she says she has received a huge amount of hate since she started driving it, as men, “jealous women,” and even children have stopped to give her grief, something that did not happen when she drove other vehicles.
Worse than just being “hated” by passersby, the Florida woman says she was pulled over by police 21 times in a single month. She recorded the 21st stop, saying she had been pulled over for playing “loud music.” In the video, a local police officer can be heard saying that her music was so loud it could be heard from blocks away.
The Internet is Divided About Florida Woman Who was Pulled Over 21 Times in a Month
Viewers were divided over whether the Florida woman was being targeted by police or if she was responsible for being pulled over so often. Some commenters said that being stopped so many times was “racial profiling to the max,” and that the “broke cops were hating she was in a sports car.”
To some folks, “Buying a luxury car shouldn’t put someone under constant harassment or make them feel unsafe. She has every right to feel like she’s being targeted.” Others said, sarcastically, “Didn’t you know being young, black, and rich is a crime?”
One person even argued against visiting this particular area where the videos were recorded, saying that she should stop “going to racist [expletive] South Beach! The Miami natives don’t even go there.”
Other viewers were not so sure it was the police’s fault that she was being pulled over so often, though: “Sounds like you’re just asking for trouble flaunting that car. People don’t like it when you show off, especially with a flashy ride.”
Someone also argued that “no one is considering the fact that maybe she can’t drive that well, and a supercar is hard to drive for good drivers,” suggesting that there is also a chance she simply is not a very good driver.
Finally, some viewers also bashed her behavior while driving, saying that “driving around recording videos is technically illegal, so I can see why she’s getting pulled over.”
