Battlefield V was officially revealed last month to a divisive reaction. Despite the lukewarm reception, the game is expected to be one of the featured titles shown at EAโ€™ s E3 2018 briefing.

Theย Battlefield V Reveal and Why Some Gamers Rejected it

Battlefield V

The reveal for Battlefield V caused many gamers to reject DICEโ€™s latest FPS due to โ€œhistorical inaccuracyโ€ in regards to women being heavily featured in theย trailer.ย  The outrage from this group of fans got so large that it sparked aย trend on social media with the tagย #NotMyBattlefield.ย Along with that complaint, other gamers have also criticized the โ€œcleanliness of the trailerโ€, unrealistic gameplay and character models (mainly the steampunk like cosmetics for some of the characters).

To see evidence of this, look no further than Battlefield Vโ€™s reveal trailer. This trailer has more than 390k dislikes (with 307k likes) as Iโ€™m writing this right now. You can see the reveal below:

Battlefield 5 Official Reveal Trailer

There is a lot to dissect here from the woman that was heavily featured in the trailer to the prosthetic limb she possesses. Personally, I have zero problems with women being featured or playable in Battlefield V. People should be allowed to customize their character however they want, especially in these FPS multiplayer games. What I do have an issue with is the way too clean feel to the WWII setting and the possibility of these cosmetics taking the place of loot-boxes. Hopefully, DICE and EA have learned from the debacle that was Star Wars: Battlefront 2.

What We Know Heading Into E3

Battlefield V

War Stories, the story mode made popular in Battlefield 1, will be returning in this installment with some form of co-op. Also returning is Operations Mode (now called Grand Operations), a wildly popular multiplayer mode that spanned across multiple maps.

For more on what Grand Operations will entail, here is an excerpt from an article by Jeff Grubb of Venturebeat:

โ€œDICE revealed Grand Operations as part of its Battlefield V reveal event today, and the company explained how it wants players to relive the bravery and desperation of battle. To accomplish that, the studio will introduce time-limited Grand Operations events that will reward players with unique items for participating. In this mode, each round is a day. Through these rounds, players will get to experience new modes that are unlike anything in the rest of the game. And then the results of one day leads into โ€” and impacts โ€” the start of the next. If you lose day one, day two could begin with your team spawning in with fewer weapons and rounds of ammunition and fewer resources to replenish your squad.

And all of that will come to a head if the Grand Operations match goes into day 4. This final day will only activate if the two teams are even at the end of day 3. If thatโ€™s the case, both sides will start with limited health and ammo, and players will die quickly โ€” and death is permanent on day 4. In this situation, fights often come down to 1-on-1 situations. And all the bonus XP your team gets for winning could end up resting on your shoulders and whether or not you have the steal nerves to take out the last enemy after an hour of nonstop Battlefield action.โ€

Destrubility will be improved as well along with a new ability to drag an injured teammate to safety before treating them. EA has also announced that Battlefield V will not contain any loot-boxes or a premium pass. All DLC content will be free for all players.

What Will We See at E3 2018?

Battlefield V

We can expect to see Battlefield V as the featured game for EAโ€™s conference at E3 this year. We donโ€™t know what we are going to see yet but if previous Battlefield games at E3 are any indication, we are likely to see a gameplay demo with tons of destruction.

EA’s E3 2018 conference will take place Saturday, June 9th at 2:00 PM EST.
