Actions have consequences, even for law enforcement officers, especially when they baselessly raid a rich Black man’s home. That’s exactly what’s happening right now to Ohio police officers who accosted rapper and Grammy nominee Afroman. One of the cops even broke down in tears, and another cried foul because Afroman’s diss track about sleeping with his wife has apparently caused emotional or reputational damage.
The tense courtroom exchange in Adams County, Ohio, turned emotional this week as deputy Randolph Walters Jr. testified against rapper Afroman, complaining over a viral music video that mocks officers involved in a controversial 2022 raid on his home.
Afroman, whose real name is Joseph Foreman, 51, appeared in court Tuesday as part of an ongoing civil lawsuit filed by four members of the Adams County Sheriff’s Office. The deputies allege that Foreman defamed them and violated their privacy by using surveillance footage from the raid in his satirical track, Lemon Pound Cake.
The footage includes jokes and lyrics referencing the officers, one of which alludes to sleeping with an officer’s wife, claims that deputies, particularly Walters Jr., say “It’s caused tremendous pain in my life,” on top of the humiliation. When asked whether this infidelity was true, however, Walters Jr. became defensive and didn’t want to admit anything.
People Online are Calling the Trial a Humiliation Ritual for the Cops
The lawsuit stems from an August 2022 search of Foreman’s home in rural Ohio. Authorities executed a warrant based on suspicions of drug trafficking and kidnapping. However, no evidence of criminal activity was found, and no charges were filed. Meanwhile, Afroman’s home incurred around $20,000 in damages, and apparently, $400 was stolen from him.
Hence, Afroman’s clapback and diss track against the police officers quickly went viral, with some commenters on Reddit even mocking the Ohio cops’ defense. “Why would these cops put themselves through this humiliation ritual?” questions a commenter. Another scrutinized the defamation case against Afroman, “So as per the deputies testimonies, Afroman may or may not have had his wife. The deputy refused to classify it as a lie.”
Others were savoring how the cops basically reaped what they sowed, “These guys thought they were going to trash a well off black man’s house and there wasn’t anything he could do about it. Karma brought a train.” A commenter even pointed out just how absurd the defamation case was and how sensitive the cops were to a diss track that they brought upon themselves, “WTF is WRONG WITH AMERICAN COPS?”
