Getting food poisoning can be tricky, especially when trying to pinpoint the exact cause. A Texas woman, however, appears to be certain that it was Beyoncé’s mother who gave her the runs when she sold her gumbo at the Houston Rodeo. The situation even got to the point where the gumbo shop had to be closed by the Houston Health Department.
TikTok user Erica Allyse, aka ericamenace, is the “bearer of the bad news” for this incident, and on March 18, she posted a TikTok video where the Houston Health Dept. texted her an update regarding her complaint against Mama Tina’s Gumbo (owned by Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles). The Houston Health Dept. had to close Mama Tina’s “due to inaccuracy between their permit application and the actual food preparation.” All gumbo onsite was also discarded.
Additionally, Allyse alleged that “It is day four and I am still sick, so I am about to go to the hospital and get a stool sample to see exactly what pathogen it was that made me sick,” blaming Mama Tina’s Gumbo. According to the TikToker, Mama Tina’s “stated that they would be preparing it [the gumbo] in a licensed restaurant nearby… which is not what happened.” The TikTok user claims the gumbo was prepared in an unlicensed place, stored somewhere also unlicensed, and then transferred to the Houston Rodeo.
The Food Poisoned Woman Took It Further
So far, Allyse has undergone an actual stool test, and it seems to have convinced her that it was indeed the gumbo that made her sick. The TikTok user appears to be further pursuing more actions regarding the incident. However, Mama Tina’s Gumbo has apparently reopened, and the reason for the temporary closure was more of a clerical error.
It’s not clear how many “victims” of supposed food poisoning from Mama Tina’s Gumbo are present, though some of the viral videos about the gumbo stand pointed out that they didn’t exactly like the gumbo. Meanwhile, people online are still on the fence about the TikTok user who directly accused Tina Knowles of food poisoning. Some have even attacked and mocked the TikTok user.
“Soooo. .this girl done single-handedly took down the Knowles family 😂😂😂😂,” jokes a TikTok commenter. Others have pointed out that the Health Department doesn’t exactly text or contact complainants directly, according to one worker, “As a 20 year veteran working for the state the health department will never text you !!!” The complainant, however, assured everyone that she was being honest about being ill and her contact with the Health Department, “The investigator texted me since you work for the health department.”
