Iowa State Senator Ernst’s New Award Triggers Democrats Still Angry over Medicaid Cuts ‘We’re all gonna die’

Good riddance

The audacity of Senator Joni Ernst’s past has Iowa voters seeing red again. Just as the Republican Senator was celebrating her latest “America’s Fuel Award,” Democrats and others on social media were quick to remind her that while she’s busy collecting trophies in Washington, her constituents back home are still reeling from her cold-blooded approach to healthcare.

In a post on the Iowa subreddit by user Vanguard_Arms, a picture recently shared by Iowa Republican State Senator Joni Ernst, alongside President Trump, doing a thumbs-up, angered many in the comments. It came with a stark reminder of her infamous “we’re all gonna die” quote last year, before announcing she is opting out of reelection.

The irony of the picture and post comes hot on the heels of her new government award. She was recognized with Growth Energy’s America’s Fuel Award for her work promoting renewable fuels to increase U.S. energy independence and lower prices at the pump. According to her own page, she made a statement on the achievement.

I’ve spent years championing Iowa biofuels, and I’m truly honored to be recognized for that work. Homegrown energy is good for America’s economy, national security, and our rural communities. I will continue the charge to secure permanent, year-round E15 to expand choice at the pump and improve energy affordability.

Despite her celebratory mood, since she is on the way out and will be leaving an empty seat before an important midterm, many liberals took the opportunity to slam her over the stripping of Medicaid for so many Iowa citizens.

“Good riddance, but her actions will have lasting impacts long beyond her tenure.”

“Why aren’t you making the Democrats perform the talking filibuster in order to pass the save act?”

“That’s what Iowa wants. Even my wife’s children whose children are on Medicaid.”

“I can’t under state how disappointing she is. Absolutely a complete coward.”

Democrats and Republicans alike will be going for her seat, as every state is important ahead of what looks to be a very contentious election year. Senator Ernst has decisively left her mark on Iowa for a long time to come due to her Medicaid ruling, even after she leaves office.
